Back pain is extremely
common - about eight
in ten people in
the UK are affected
at some time in
their lives. Back
pain can affect
anyone at any age;
although the most
common ages to get
back pain is between
the ages of 35 and
55. There are multiple
causes of back pain,
ranging from poor
posture to more
severe (less common)
conditions such
as infection, vertebral
collapse, tuberculosis
or cancer.
The Diagnosis of
back pain is generally
made by a qualified
clinician using:

history of how the
pain developed and
other associated
factors
- A thorough clinical
examination
- A diagnostic test
such as a MRI scan
